A Journey of Hope: Laura’s Story with Indiana Fertility Institute
Meet Indiana Fertility Institute (IFI) patient Laura Williams, and her husband, Drew, proud parents of baby Emmett, born in August 2025. Their fertility journey began in 2022, filled with uncertainty, resilience, and ultimately, joy. After one and a half years of trying to grow their family without success, Laura turned to her OBGYN for guidance. That conversation led them to Indiana Fertility Institute (IFI), where their story truly began in May 2024.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Laura and Drew’s new patient consultation took place with Dr. Meredith Provost. “I was apprehensive since I hadn't had great experiences with my OBGYN,” Laura recalls. “She told me maybe I just wasn’t meant to have children. [However,] I was immediately put at ease [by] Dr. Provost and her medical team, since they all seemed to value our experience and wanted to find ways for us to start our family.”
Following her initial fertility evaluation, Laura was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, a probable luteal phase defect, and diminished egg quality. Despite the challenges, she and Drew remained hopeful and proactive.
“We started exploring treatments that summer and did medication with progesterone support,” Laura recalls.
After several cycles, they prepared to move on to intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatment. But during a routine ultrasound in October 2024, Dr. Provost discovered Laura had uterine polyps—an unexpected hurdle. A hysteroscopy was scheduled for November, and the uterine polyps were successfully removed.
In December, Laura and Drew resumed medicated cycles with Letrozole and progesterone support.
A Holiday Miracle
Then came a pivotal moment. On December 22, 2024, during an ultrasound, Laura’s care team saw what they described as a “prime opportunity.” That evening, Laura triggered ovulation. Just weeks later, on January 6, 2025, Laura and Drew received the news they had been waiting for: a positive pregnancy test!
“We got a snowstorm overnight on January 5, and Drew was outside shoveling the driveway when I took the test on the morning of January 6,” Laura recalls. She was shocked because their first test on January 3, which was also Drew’s birthday, had not been successful. “I assumed that I was out of luck that cycle and then just cried that it had happened. We were so happy to receive a positive test!”
The Joys of Parenthood & Journey Reflections
The road wasn’t easy. Laura shared that the most challenging part of her fertility journey was grappling with the unknown—wondering if treatments would work. But the most rewarding moment was the blessing of their first child, Emmett.
Sweet Emmett is doing wonderfully today. “He is turning into such a sweet, chatty baby,” Laura shares. “He's very strong and we love watching all of the constant changes as he grows.”
Reflecting on her experience, Laura offers heartfelt advice to others beginning their fertility journey: “Have an open mind, and be willing to advocate for yourself and your family once options are explored.”
She also encourages others to stay flexible and collaborative: “Be willing to work with the IFI team to explore the best treatment options.”
Final Thoughts
Laura’s story is a testament to perseverance, partnership, and the power of compassionate care. IFI is honored to have been part of her journey and celebrates the arrival of baby Emmett with joy and gratitude!
