Celebrating Dr. John Jarrett: A Legacy of Indiana Families

Posted on November 2, 2026 by Inception Fertility

After decades of caring for families across Indiana, Dr. John C. Jarrett II will retire from Indiana Fertility Institute (IFI) on December 15, 2026. All of us at IFI are grateful for his extraordinary career and for the countless families he has helped build.

A career that began with IVF itself

Dr. Jarrett's career grew alongside fertility medicine. In 1985, he started the first successful IVF program in Indiana at Women's Hospital. That was just a few years after the world's first IVF baby was born.

Over the years he led many Indiana firsts, including:

  • Indiana's first successful IVF, GIFT and ZIFT procedures

  • The state's first successful pregnancy from frozen embryos

  • Programs in egg and embryo freezing, egg and embryo donation, and fertility preservation

He has also performed more assisted reproductive procedures than any other physician in Indiana. He is a charter member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), and this year he was again named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, an honor he has received for 16 years.

Measured in families

The numbers are remarkable: 20,000+ babies born with Dr. Jarrett's help. But he would be the first to say the numbers were never the point. Each one is a family, a first holiday, a first day of school, and a lifetime of memories that began in an exam room in Indiana.

To every patient who trusted him with their family-building journey: thank you for being part of his story.
