Finding Answers and Faith: Kylie’s Fertility Journey with IFI
A Search for Clarity
For Indiana Fertility (IFI) patient Kylie Bright-Schuler and her husband Eli, the path to parenthood began with hope and determination in September 2023. “It was 6 months into trying to conceive that I went to my OB/GYN to get a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and lab work done,” Kylie recalls. “My husband also got a sperm sample tested. Everything appeared to be fine, so my OB/GYN encouraged us to press on.”
But after another six months without success, Kylie and Eli sought help from a fertility clinic in January 2025. There, they underwent two timed intercourse (TI) cycles and two intrauterine inseminations (IUIs)—all of which were unsuccessful. Kylie was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and her care team’s recommendation was to move on to in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, Kylie had a strong intuition that something else was going on - and that the right person could provide that diagnosis.
A Family Connection Leads to IFI
Determined to find answers, Kylie and Eli turned to Indiana Fertility Institute in April and Dr. John Jarrett—a physician with a unique connection to their family. “My husband’s parents actually used [Dr. Jarrett] to help get pregnant with my husband and 4 of his siblings,” Kylie shares. “God has used their infertility journey to spur hope and joy amidst ours.”
Dr. Jarrett performed an exploratory laparoscopy in June, uncovering the true causes of Kylie’s fertility challenges: endometriosis and severe polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). “With the endometriosis cauterized, we are currently three cycles post-surgery and look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Jarrett on the next steps!”
Treatment and Support
Over the entire course of their journey, Kylie and Eli have experienced five timed intercourse cycles and two IUIs. Now, post-surgery, they’re continuing with TI cycles and feeling hopeful. “The care we have received has felt intentional and personalized,” Kylie says of her experience at IFI. “I appreciate all the techs and doctors I've interacted with.”
Navigating the Emotional Landscape
Like many patients, Kylie has faced emotional hurdles along the way. “There is a feeling of being alone and that there is something wrong with me,” she admits. “It is still a daily struggle, but my husband and I are leaning heavily on God during this time.”
Despite the challenges, Kylie finds strength in the growth she and Eli have experienced together. “The most rewarding part of my fertility journey has been the maturity of mine and my husband's faith along with the strengthening of our marriage.”
Words of Wisdom
Looking back, Kylie emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy. “Advocate for yourself and do your research for yourself ALWAYS,” she says. She also encourages others to embrace the complexity of emotions that come with fertility struggles: “Understand that it is okay to hold space for grief and joy amidst pregnancy announcements.”
Her advice to others just beginning their journey with IFI? “Give yourself and your body GRACE.”
Looking Ahead
As Kylie continues her journey, she remains optimistic and grateful. “I am so happy to be at IFI and am looking forward to getting pregnant soon with their help. My husband and I trust in God's timing and his ultimate plan for us, in which we are praying we will be parents.”
